P721K @ Maimonides

Site Description

Maimonides has partnered with high schools across NYC to engage students in unique vocational and volunteer opportunities. With this partnership, students are integrated into the local community as they service and interact with not only their peers, but also with the Maimonides staff. Students at P721K participate in these full-time internship programs throughout the school year as they learn about different vocations & professions within the healthcare field. The healthcare professionals & providers at Maimonides train & work alongside our students to give patients a comprehensive level and quality of care. Students are responsible for completing various tasks & jobs. In doing so, students are afforded valuable vocational exposures that may also have the potential to lead them to future vocational or volunteer opportunities, post-graduation. Through these unique, hands-on experiences, students are also able to practice functional skills that will help to foster their independence. Both P721K & the staff have worked hard to make this a successful partnership that all involved take much pride in,

ENL at Worksite: English Language Learners receive ENL services throughout the day. This allows them to learn and practice their English language skills while working and interacting with peers & facility staff members. Students learn to expand their English vocabulary skills. They also practice their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills within the general vocational/functional worksite setting and as they relate to job-specific skills and tasks.
